Favourite digital tool of digital natives in Central Asia

A fair, free and sustainable world – that is what HIVOS, the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation, wants to contribute to. Together with local organisations in developing countries, HIVOSstrives for a world in which all citizens – both men and women – have equal access to resources and opportunities for development.

That is why HIVOS together with NewEurasia.net – Blogging Central Asia project supported our BarCamp Central Asia 2009 which is for promotion education and media, new skills for new future.

We were so happy to actually have Monique Doppert coming from far away (the Netherlands) to our conference (I personally have enjoyed so much seeing you there, and I am sure many had pleasure to actually talk to you where I have missed a lot ’cause a lot of coference management required my presence), and here I am happy to post a video she has made during BarCamp Central Asia 2009.

Please, enjoy!!

Monique was also blogging about us at her blog:

Barcamper’s favourite tools

Last week I attended the Barcamp in Almaty. Again it was a lively and informal gathering of enthusiastic digital natives from all over Central Asia. On this videoclip (6.30 min.) some of them share the digital tools they use most and probable also love most.

…and sent a very very very much interesting link for those of you who is crazy about reporting. And I personally think, it is brilliant!

We are looking for you. The ever-expanding Metropolis network is always looking for new video journalists to join us! If you’re a filmmaker or videoblogger from outside The Netherlands, and if you know your city by heart, you can find out here how to get into the action.

Chances are not everywhere for any time and for everyone. Do not miss yours!

E-volution in action!

It is always a great pleasure to me, as a journalist, when my colleagues show extreme interest in what is happening around. What is the main thing about journalism? Right, it’s inquisitiveness :) Or, as business people say, it’s all about pro-activity, which distinguishes smart people and true barcampers!

Recently Victoria Nikolenko, a journalist of “E-volution” program at the national TV channel “Khabar”, has contacted us. This program covers new technologies, Internet, e-government, interesting ideas on the web and various ICT projects.

Victoria’s email was pretty plain and clear, revealing her huge interest in the new and mysterious topic. Well, we are always happy to be open to everyone – that’s just the way we are going!

So, here’s what we’ve got eventually. Take a look!

We sincerely and utterly thank Victoria and the whole staff of the “E-volution” program! We are looking forward to seeing you at the conference this weekend!

#barcampca09 April, 18th. Presentation day.

As you all know from the schedule (attention, update is coming!!), April 18th is our ‘presentation day’. Everyone willing will be able to share experience, knowledge, skills in presentation format (you should have either .ppt or any other graphic and illustrative your words material).

How the session will go?

April 18th, Saturday, we have 8 flows of presentations (7 ru\eng + 1 kaz) at one time. Everyone willing to present, can write down in the morning a topic of the presentation in schedule list that will hang down in the hall – just come and write down the topic (short but interesting) + the language the presentation will be held in free slot.

Than you see time, choose presentations you want to listen to (make your own schedule using notebooks everyone registered gets on April 17 and morning April 18 at registration desk in the same hall), and go listen!

Presentations should be:

  • interesting
  • usefull
  • non-commercial (we are not PRing ourselves, we share experience even if talking about commercial projects)
  • visual
  • creative (not to make people get bored and leave the presentation room for better; remember, we have 8 simultaneous flows!)

By now we prepare a model of the presentation schedule for the printing house, and we need to calculate how many presentations we have as preliminary quantity (of course, on the event figures may be different!).

Therefore we ask everyone willing to present, write down the preliminary presentation topic on our forum according to the language the presentation will be held on.

Photo-remembrance of BarCamp Baltics 2008

There is about a month left for the second Baltic barcamp, and I eventually have found a photo made last year by nurgeldy in Riga, on BarCamp Baltics 2008.

(c) nurgeldy

Answering on questions placed on the photo, I can say that the girl’s name is Lena aka Mursya. She lives in Almaty, South capital of Kazakhstan. And this year her hair is curly :) And no sigarettes :)
